Maintaining the service levels of your coffee machine and following a cleaning routine, will not only avoid service breakdowns, but can also have an effect on the flavour of your coffee.

When handling traditional coffee machines, it’s important to keep in mind the following:

Machine cleanliness

  • Purging steam wands after every use

How? This can be done by opening the steam tap and releasing fresh steam through the wand (for at least 3 seconds)

Why? This will ensure that all the excess milk is released from the steam wand, preventing any build up and milk transferring back through the tap into the boiler

  • Cleaning the steam wands after every use

How? By wiping down excess milk

Why? To ensure the correct level of hygiene is maintained and the collected milk on the wands is removed, allowing a consistent taste across all coffee produced

  • Group head cleaning

How? By backflushing your coffee machine daily with coffee machine cleaner. To view our Cafetto EVO Espresso Machine Cleaner Click Here

Why? If a coffee machine is not properly backflushed the coffee produced may have a bitter taste caused by the coffee oils/residue left in the group heads after use.  To find out what happens when you don't backflush your coffee machine, visit our solenoid blog Click Here

Machine Parameters

  • Steam Pressure

How? The higher your steam pressure, the higher your group head temperature

Why? Adjusting your steam pressure, not only effects how you texture your milk, but it also effects your group head temperature. If you set your steam pressure too high, your group temperature becomes too hot and you will burn your coffee.

  • Pump Pressure

How? The brewing pressure is usually set by adjusting the regulator on the brew pump (usually adjusted by a qualified technician).

Why? When brewing, the pressure should be generally around 9 bar, which is usually considered the ideal brew pressure for coffee. The brew pressure will affect how your coffee is extracted and how it tastes.

Water Filtration

  • Choose the right filtration for your machine

How? Determine the water quality in your area (state / suburb / regional) and seek expert opinion on what suits best. Click Here to find out more
